Penile enlargement plastic surgeons who perform surgery in their office surgical suite apply to the branch of the Joint Commission called the Office-Based Surgery Accreditation Program if they have four or fewer doctors on staff and to the branch that deals with ambulatory patients if they have more.

The accreditation standards are meant to ensure you get the care you need, before, during, and after surgery. Be sure the accreditation is up to date. Office-based surgeries must be re-certified every three years.

A surveyor is sent from the Joint Commission to evaluate the practice and also to educate the staff to improve performance. The surveyor is a specialist in small settings for surgery and in ambulatory care. They have special training, both when they begin their work and through the year, and must be certified themselves.

Since 2004, the Joint Commission has traced specific patients through the care and services they received. Doctors who have provisional, conditional or preliminary accreditation must correct the problems which the surveyor found.
